On Monday, September 16, 2024, Officer Dane Sorensen of the Forty Fort Police Department and Officer Jefferson Ramirez of the Kingston Police Department were honored for their quick and heroic actions during an emergency on the night of August 22, 2024.
The incident occurred when Officer Sorensen was dispatched by Luzerne County 911 to a motorcycle crash with injuries on Rutter Avenue, near the Exit 4 ramp of State Route 309. Upon his arrival, Officer Sorensen was directed to the scene, located downhill near Schiff's Market, where the injured motorcycle riders were found. Officer Jefferson Ramirez, who heard the dispatch, arrived to assist Officer Sorensen.
Without hesitation, both officers sprang into action, providing life-saving emergency care to the individuals involved in the accident. Their swift response and professionalism played a crucial role in stabilizing the situation and ensuring the well-being of those affected.
In recognition of their efforts, both Officer Sorensen and Officer Ramirez were awarded certificates for Outstanding Performance in Saving a Human Life, as well as Life-Saving Merit Medals for their conspicuous initiative, capability, and dedication to duty.
Recognition and Gratitude are also extended to Rich Jarus and Justin Alverson, both good Samaritans who began care prior to Police and EMS arrival.
