The Hazleton Police Department is currently looking into several recent incidents where individuals have taken Jewlery from students walking home from school. At this time, the situations appear to involve juveniles being asked to give up gold chains before the suspects leave the area.

While we continue our investigation, we want to remind families of a few simple safety steps that can help keep children safe:

• Encourage your child to walk with friends whenever possible.
• Stick to main roads and well-travelled areas.
• Remind your child not to engage with people they don’t know.
• If something doesn’t feel right, they should get to a safe place and call 911 as soon as possible.

Parents are also encouraged to contact police immediately if their child reports anything suspicious or concerning. Quick reporting helps us respond more effectively.
